More Than a Meal

"Go in peace, be warmed and be fed..."James 2:16

The Weekend Lunch program has served the needs of downtown Macon since the mid-1990s. What started as an opportunity to help feed the homeless, hungry, and less fortunate in a safe and enjoyable environment has since grown into a program that delivers far more than a meal to our community.

Meal Serving Times

Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM to 12 PM

Meals are served at Jones Chapel at Christ Church on Walnut Street Lane.

Weekend Lunch operates through teams of volunteers that serve together 4-6 times during the year. Our teams consist of compassionate people from various churches, religious organizations, community groups, and individual organizations. Guided by the team leader, each volunteer group provides an average of 260 meals per weekend in downtown Macon.

Additional Ways to Serve

Alongside our mission to provide nourishing meals, Weekend Lunch’s volunteers and partners equip guests with hygiene kits, crocheted hats, and scarves. During cold months, warm clothes and blankets are also distributed. We even provide guests the opportunity to obtain information on health and safety throughout the year.

Hal Brickle, Co-Executive Director (CEO)

I am honored to bring my lifelong passion for service to the Weekend Lunch program here at Christ Church Episcopal. My career as a special education instructor and my years in ministry taught me the immense value of advocating for others and leading with compassion. Returning home to Middle Georgia to care for family naturally guided me to this feeding ministry. Today, I am dedicated to driving our strategic growth so we can continue to address food insecurity, lift up our downtown Macon neighbors, and build a stronger, more connected community together.

Food preparation and community service are the heartbeat of our ministry. We believe that creating a delicious meal and placing it directly into the hands of a neighbor in need is a sacred calling. Backed by dedicated teams of volunteers who share this vision, our mission brings profound fulfillment to everyone involved. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve the Macon community and feel blessed to be part of such a beautiful, life-giving ministry.

Ensuring our kitchen and logistics run smoothly means we can consistently serve our neighbors with love and hospitality every single week."
